The Liverpool Daily Post has described me as “the estimable Mr Warren Makin, proprietor of a set of whiskers so perfectly Victorian they should have a preservation order slapped on them forthwith. Mr Makin, one of the last of the true Liverpolitan Gentlemen, is as much a tourist sight as the Liverpool Wheel, and here he is in all his glory in a picture entitled, a little mischievously, Out on the Pith.” Flattery indeed! But I don’t consider a plastic pac-a-mac to be all my glory! If I had known there would be a Newspaper Photographer taking candid photographs I would have had my valet dress me properly!
